Touching more lives, affecting the outcome of so many
futures a teacher is the epitome of a leader. Just as a leader
has his or her own style, their way of motivating their
students, also plays an important part in a students success.
Spending more time with our children then most parents
do, a teacher is fundamental in shaping our children. If they
are poor leaders our children suffer. When they shine as
leaders our children blossom and the universe is wide
open to them. As a teacher it is of utmost importance that
you tune your leadership skills and find the best style of
teaching for the students you are teaching. In finding
resources for this paper it was interesting to note that all
the information fell under the category of leadership and
not teacher qualities. It was also interesting to note that the
principle the US Army teaches on leadership are included
in an overwhelming number of corporations as well taught
mostly by retired military themselves. The intrinsic
characteristics of a teacher can be categorized into a few
main teaching styles or leadership styles. Directing,
Participating, Delegating, and Combined styles are the
main forms of teaching and leading. The qualities
associated with these styles are imperative to any teacher.
The purpose as teachers is fundamentally the same as
leaders, to provide purpose, direction and motivation
while operating to accomplish the mission in this case to
educate. All four of these actions must be present in order
for a student to benefit. A leader or teacher is not born but
cultivated through his/her upbringing and environment. In

About Brady Cline

About Brady Cline

Brady Cline has been an international educator for over 12 years. He holds various qualifications and has taught in seven countries in a variety of positions in high school and elementary. Before becoming a teacher, Brady worked as a project manager for a dot-com.

Graduate certificate in School Administration and SupervisionJohns Hopkins University, 2010 In collaboration with the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)

Master of Education University of La Verne, 2009 Special Emphasis in Advanced Teaching

California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential University of La Verne, 2001 Cross-cultural, Language & Academic Development Emphasis

Bachelor of Science John Brown University, 1996 Major in Psychology; Minor in Journalism

Brady began learning through technology at an early age. By the time he entered university, he was using his Mac to compose and record music, build simple websites, and design with professional desktop publishing and graphics tools. After university, he began working for an internet company in California during the dot-com era. There, he quickly rose from web-designer to project manager assisting with international technical sales.

In 1999, he took what was meant to be just a short break. He moved to Honduras to teach 6th grade at the suggestion of a friend. His personal laptop was the only one in the elementary school, and he immediately began putting it to use in his classroom. Within a few months, he was collaborating with the head of school on a new website and database project. By the end of the year, Brady was hooked on teaching and decided to return to California to earn a teaching qualification and masters in education.

Since then, Brady has taught in seven countries at almost every grade level. At each school, he has worked closely with senior leadership to develop a clear school vision for technology and to lead pedagogical change. In 2010, Brady completed an administrative certificate from top-ranked Johns Hopkins University and ISTE.

In 2011, Brady joined the New International School of Thailand, one of the most renowned IB World Schools in the region. As the ICT Coordinator there, he transformed the ICT teacher roles into coaching roles, conducted iPad trials and successfully implemented one of the first large-scale 1:1 iPad programs in an international school. In 2013, Brady joined the Senior Leadership Team as the Vice Principal of Academic Operations. This K-12 role had wide-ranging responsibilities similar to a deputy head. He also oversaw all PD programs, and led the decision to transition the high school to Macs from a well-established 1:1 tablet PC program.

In 2014, Brady took advantage of a unique opportunity to serve as the founding ICT Coordinator at GEMS World Academy – Singapore. GEMS is a global organization with 100s of schools, but Singapore is their only Mac school. There, Brady designed an IT department focused on meeting the needs of learners. As his role quickly expanded, he transitioned to Learning Innovation Coordinator with responsibilities for designing new learning spaces, writing curriculum and leading in-house PD. In his spare time, he teaches MYP design in a 2:1 environment (Mac+iPad). As a teacher and learner, he is currently most excited about building schools around the Connected Learning framework and leveraging design thinking for students and organizations.

Professional Background Leadership

Successful leadership requires vision and an understanding of how to pursue that vision. It also requires courage and a commitment to 21-century learning. As a school leader, I have proven myself as someone who understands how to build dynamic learning communities and inspire others with high standards, trust, and a shared vision of the future.

I left a leadership position in the tech industry fourteen years ago for a career in education. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience to return to leadership, and I have received much enthusiastic encouragement from peers and leaders to continue in the path toward higher levels of leadership. I have recently completed an administrative certificate from Johns Hopkins University and currently work in a whole school position as the Vice Principal of Academic Operations at NIST in Bangkok.

As school leaders work to create and support a shared school vision, there should be special attention to the power of technology to help fulfill that vision. Educational leaders must recognize the ubiquity of technology in modern society and the opportunities to improve student learning across the curriculum through the application of new technologies. I am very proud of my recent work transforming teaching and learning through technology. I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Apple as an ADE collaborating with other school leaders and exploring transformative new tools such as interactive iBooks (see one I created recently ). four years ago, I conducted an iPad pilot. which resulted in a wildly successful new 1:1 iPad program in our elementary school. I followed this by leading our transition from PCs to Mac in the secondary. Through this work, I have led the successful adoption of Google Apps to improve student learning and streamline administrative workflows. I’m currently excited about how schools can begin to strategically connect curriculum, technology and data to guide new practices and improve learning.

I studied graphic design in university and put these skills to use as a graphic designer and web-developer in the late 90’s. These skills have served as a foundation for much of the educational technology projects that I have been involved with since that time. Some of these include: creating an online teacher recruiting database. graphic design for admissions offices. teaching technology electives such as digital music production, creating yearbooks and other school publications. helping teachers create class websites, designing report cards, and designing a new school intranet based on Google Apps .

I have had the opportunity to teach a wide range of grades and subjects: Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 10. I believe this gives me a strong perspective on the development of children and the institutional requirements to support them throughout all their school years. Recently, as a PYP and MYP teacher, I sought to develop transdisciplinary skills through an inquiry-based model. I believe that this can be done without sacrificing high standards of objectively measured achievement, and I have spent the last several years working in my classroom, with curriculum coordinators and with other teachers in my department to develop objective assessments linked to curricular benchmarks. Technology has provided the perfect platform to pursue these goals.

In addition to high standards and inquiry-based learning, I am committed to creating a 21-century learning environment that prepares students for the world and jobs of the future. My fifth-grade students blogged daily and regularly created multimedia projects. Student work was submitted, assessed, and shared with parents through Google Apps. As an ICT coach, I had the opportunity to help large groups of students and teachers explore new ways to engage with ideas and each other. The EleICT blog is a great place to see some examples of my work with students and with teachers. I love technology, but I prefer not to be painted with the technology brush; I’m an educator with a passion for exploring new ways to engage students as they develop into .

Personal Background

I was born and raised in California. He spent much of his youth in the mountains outside of San Diego, biking forest trails after school and surfing on the weekends. My brother and I took an early interest in technology, saving our money to buy a Tandy-1000 to replace our aging Vic-20. I started recording electronic music with my Mac. My love for music production has continued to this day, and I’ve had the opportunity to design my own home recording studio and work in a professional recording studio, and produce music for others. In the early 90’s and chose to minor in art as an excuse to work creatively with computers. I couldn’t hack the drawing classes, so I switched to journalism so I could continue my new-found love of graphic design and photography. After university, I took a temp job filling in for a secretaryat a dot-com start-up. The CEO took notice of a presentation I put together for him, and he offered me a job as a graphic and web designer. A year later, I was managing the department and traveling internationally for business. In a strange twist, for reasons hardly remembered, I decided to take a break from the corporate world and teach sixth grade for a year in Honduras. I returned to California changed. I went back to teachers’ college and started teaching in east Hollywood. Twelve years later, I have taught in six countries at almost every grade-level from K-12.

What’s in a Name?

I went back and forth with the idea of having two separate websites, one with my name as domain and one as my blog. Although many people I greatly respect have opted for two separate sites, I’ve chosen to keep it simple for now. That said, the ed-tech blog is named “Incredibly Near.” ( resolves to Why this name? First, because I believe we are incredibly near to some amazing breakthroughs in education. Second, because it is an anagram for my full name, Brady Erin Cline. And in case you were thinking it — no, “Erin” is not just a girl’s name (in Ireland).

Below is an essay on "Leadership" from Anti Essays, your source for research papers, essays, and term paper examples.

I’m an academically and personally excellent applicant for a scholarship, due to my desire of becoming a eagerness to acquire knowledge in various subjects, allowing me to be a more complete leader and human being.

I’ve always been a curious kind of man, seeking different point of views, experiences, information, and ways of doing things, since I strongly believe that there is not only one way to do things.
For example while studying my undergraduate program, I took not only the mandatory courses related to the economics major, but also took classes in music, theatre, and sports. This helped me to gain the necessary knowledge in different areas to become a more complete human being.

Specifically, music taught me, how with limited resources, I can achieve different results, and provide different alternatives. In music, with only 7 main notes, it can be made millions of different songs. This proved me the importance of creativity and the possibility of always produce results with the optimization of the resources I actually have.

Also as an undergraduate, thanks to my good GPA, I was able to be a teacher assistant. This experience, made me realize that sometimes what is obvious to me is not evident to everybody, hence I needed all the knowledge in my power to offer and accept different point of views, as well as to communicate the message clearly in a different way.

This gained knowledge, has befitted my goal to become a successful leader and consultant, having as main pillars: the creativity, doing things in different ways, different point of views, optimization, confidence, communication and doing my best, all of them which are built on knowledge.

In order to achieve this goal, I realized that I needed to keep gaining more knowledge; hence I cursed a postgraduate specialization in marketing a few years of work experience, and not only improved my GPA from the undergraduate program, but gained important knowledge that I’ve.

Leadership and you

My personal definition of leadership is being able to influence a team to successfully complete tasks being very hands-on with them. A leader should lead by example. The technique is to not just sit back and delegate but to delegate the task and also assist. I saw the picture below that demonstrates leadership. This picture shows a business with the boss and the leader. The boss was delegating. He sits behind his desk and implies shouting orders. The leader on the other hand joined his team. He got from behind that desk and he worked together with his team to accomplish their goal.

I support my definition by aligning it with the definition of Daft (2012), the ability to influence people toward the attainment of organizational goals. In GM500 &GM501, I learned that an effective leader is a coach, this person also shows humility. He or she works together with their team to accomplish goals.

A person that I believe exemplifies leadership according to my definition is someone I know personally and professionally. My god-mother, Salome Osbourne is a great leader. She has been my god-mother all my life and has been a very influential person to me. Growing up I saw her leading by example as a teacher. She taught at Patensha Primary School in Guyana. She was a teacher for over 15 years. During that time she was awarded Teacher of the Year, as well as other awards. She led her class of students by being the best coach possible. She came from behind her desk and made sure that all her student understood the subjects. She is a great motivator who praised and rewarded her students who was successful and worked together with her students who was less successful. She demonstrated by her actions that she cared about her students’ achievements and their academic success. Because of this way of teaching, her students went on to be successful, graduated from high school and some even went on to attend prestigious universities.

Professionally, Salome was also a great influence in my life. She eventually changed careers and started working in the financial industry. She worked for a very successful wire house, Morgan Stanley in New York. Salome started out as an operations specialist and moved up within the firm in short period of time to become an assistant vice president within the operations department. When I became of age to work,

Collaborative professional development is important and can positively affect student learning. The more time teachers are given to plan, discuss, observe and learn from other teachers the more diverse and active their classrooms can be. Students will see how teachers working together have a cohesive environment in the school and see how team building can really be effective. Collaboration also allows teachers to discuss common discipline rules and procedures so students know there is a common expectation in all of their classes. It also gives teachers time to discuss students’ strengths and weaknesses across content areas to help improve student achievement.

The coaching implementation process can also support teacher development. Coaching can be beneficial for all teachers depending on the type of coaching being utilized. New teachers will require more intensive coaching. This can include informing the new teachers of the social aspects of the building on top of curriculum, classroom management, and discipline policies. More experienced teachers may only require coaching when new instructional procedures need to be implemented in the classroom. I will use mentoring, coaching and collaboration to further my professional development. Being a part of the teaching profession is the desire to be a lifelong learner. Mentoring, coaching and collaborating are ways to be supported and support your colleagues. I will use the information that I obtained from this course to help become more active as a teacher leader in my building.

The only program that I have experience with is the one in my school district. As a new teacher to the district four years ago, I was entered into when I started. The program offered was very successful in.
